As the story goes, once upon a time there lived a king named Shahriyar. After marrying his beautiful first wife, he discovered she was unfaithful to him. King Shahriyar became so enraged that he immediately had his adulterous wife beheaded.
And it came to pass that the King then made a dreadful decision and issued a most terrible decree. Each time he took a bride he would behead his new wife the morning after they were wed.
This would guarantee the king that no other wife of his would ever betray him. Over the next several years, Shahriyar married and murdered many of his realm’s most desirable maidens.
The King’s Grand Vizier was the loving father of two exceptionally beautiful young women. One of his daughter’s was named Scheherazade.
Scheherazade’s loveliness was magnified by her compassion and her cleverness. Day after mournful day, the jealous and vengeful King’s cruelty to the women in His realm grieved Scheherazade exceedingly. When she could withstand it and stand by no longer, she went unto her father and pleaded with him that he present her to Shahriyar. Her father begged her to reconsider what she asked of him. Scheherazade said unto her father that even if she did not marry the King now, one day she would have to do so.
She also told her father that she had a plan she hoped would save her life.
Does Scheherazade indeed have a plan?
